What is Lebanese Hashweh? It’s rice that translates literally into “stuffing” in Arabic. This rice mixture is commonly used to stuff grape leaves, zucchini, eggplant and even Turkey!
It's a delicious plate of goodness packed with protein and carbs for a healthy and hearty meal for your family. My boys LOVE this dish. This middle eastern side dish can also be eaten as a main dish topped with kabobs of your choice! It's definitely one of my favorite traditional dishes growing up, and I am so proud to honor my family traditions every time I make this dish.

Our Twist
Our twist for this Lebanese Hashweh is the use of the seven spice by Ziyad. It's a delicious combination of spices that accentuates and adds to its flavor. If you don't have seven spice you can simply use cumin, cinnamon, salt and pepper and it will still taste delicious!

Since this is a hearty portion of rice, chances are that you'll want to complement this meal with a side that is lighter. Whether it's for your thanksgiving dinner or on your regular day, the grilled eggplant with tahini sauce would be a perfect addition side to this dish. In fact, you may even be able to add some of that Tahini on your rice.
Lebanese Rice Pilaf "Hashweh"
Ingredients
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb organic lean ground beef
- 2 cup basmati or jasmine rice
- 1/2 cup vermicelli noodles
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 red onion
- 1/2 cup parsely
- 3 garlic
- 1/4 cup pine nuts
- 1/4 cup almonds
Spices
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp pepper
Twist
- 1 tbsp seven spice
- 1 tsp cayenne
- 1/2 cup yellow raisins or currents
Instructions
RINSE THE RICE
- In a large strainer, add rice in cold water and let it rinse for 5 minutes (or until water runs clear).
COOK MEAT
- Set the Instant Pot setting to "Sauté". Add 1 Tbsp. of olive oil, cook red onions, the organic lean ground beef and the spices. Keep this setting until the meat is cooked to desired taste. Follow the same instructions if cooking in a pot.
- In a small pan, heat 1 Tbsp. olive oil on medium-high heat and sauté vermicelli noddles until golden brown.
COOK RICE
- Drain water from rice. Pour the soaked rice on top of the meat. Season the rice with sea salt. Add in the vermicelli noodles. Add 2 cups of water (tip: or 1:1 ratio for the amount of rice you are using ex. 1 cup rice to 1 cup water). Gently mix the ingredients with a large spoon. Set the Instant Pot setting to "Rice ". Cover and let cook (approx. 12 min). Let pot naturally release for 10 minutes, then move release value to “vent”.
ASSEMBLE RICE BOWL AND GARNISH
- Take rice and meat combination out and plate it in a large flat serving dish. Garnish with parsley, toasted pine nuts and almonds. Serve with a side of yogurt and you're set for your special Mediterranean dining experience!

Best tasting hashwe ever!! Recipe definitely has a twist 👍😊 i’ve tried other hashwes before, but this one has robust flavor that exceeds all the others.
