This one is definitely an appetizer you'll want to make for your holiday party this year! It's festive, and fun and takes about 15 minutes to prepare!
Ingredients
garbanzo beans: you can buy organic canned garbanzo beans from Trader Joes!
lemon, tahini, garlic, cumin, olive oil, mint, pomegranate seeds, sea salt, marinated spicy olives to top appetizer (optional)
Twist: Sumac (a middle eastern spice made from dried and ground berries of the wild sumac flower. It is tangy in taste with an acidic flavor reminiscent of lemon juice!

Substitutions
- If you don't have sumac, you can use paprika. This is perfect to serve with bread or veggies for dipping!
Variations
- you can also use white bean to create your holiday hummus with a twist!

food processor, or vitamix and a large serving plate
Storage
You can put in a tight container and store the night before serving (make sure to exclude toppings).
Top tip
Use ice cubes instead of cold water! This will help your hummus come out so creamy and smooth. Also, save a few garbanzo beans on the side to top your dish and make it look fancy!
Holiday Hummus
Ingredients
- 2 cans garbanzo beans
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1 lemon
- 2 tbsp tahini
- 2-3 ice cubes
- 2-3 garlic cloves
- 1 pinch cumin
- 1/2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 sprig fresh mint
- 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds for topping
- 1/4 cup marinated spicy olives for topping (optional)
Twist
- 1 pinch sumac
Instructions
- Rinse 2 cans of organic garbanzo beans under cool water in a strainer.
- Set aside a 1/4 cup of garbanzo beans, for garnish.
- Add the remaining garbanzo beans and garlic in blender and mix until smooth.
- While garbanzo continue to mix, add tahini, juice from lemon, salt, and ice cubes in the blender or food processor for 3-4 minutes.
- Blend ingredients to desired thickness. Add cold water if needed to adjust creaminess.
- Pour hummus into serving bowl. Swirl with a spoon.
- Garnish with garbanzo beans, olive oil, pomegranate seeds, spicy olives, and mint leaves.
- Add a pinch of sumac on top for the decorative and tasty twist!
